An academic experience I had that impacted my life was the children's book I created for one of my HONR 370 classes. Creating this book allowed me to learn how to better communicate with children. This is important to me, because my passion is working with and taking care of children. I plan on working with them for the rest of my life, so this has helped me learn how to speak to them in ways that are effective.
I would tell a prospective Honors students to join the Honors College, because it opens so many doors and opportunities for you. TAKE ADVANTAGE of the opportunity! Once you do, stay focused and determined on your work and classes. Sometimes you may feel overwhelmed and challenged, but not only will it go by quickly, it will also be very worth it. Remember to always have mental health self check-ins and self care days, because you can only give your best when you are at your best!
My favorite aspect of the Honors community is the residential learning community. I love that I was able to live around people who I go to class with. I also love the fact that events/games are offered to us, so we can become closer to other students and have some fun while we tackle honors classes.
I chose Honors college to be part of a small community with students who share the same motivation and goals as me. I also loved that they offered smaller classes and allowed me to meet people in different disciplines.
